Title
1980 Allegheny County Historic Resource Survey (47) 1025 4th Ave
Subject
United States Post Office, 1025 Fourth Avenue — Coraopolis Historic Resource Survey, 1980
Description
Pennsylvania Historic Resource Survey form documenting the United States Post Office at 1025 Fourth Avenue in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Constructed in 1936, the one-story Classical-style public building was designed under supervising architect Louis A. Simon and features brick construction on a concrete foundation, a gabled roof topped by a cupola, twelve-over-twelve windows with stone lintels and sills, and a dentiled wooden cornice. The recessed main entrance is set within a semicircular arch and includes a relief of the Postal Eagle, Doric columns, a dentiled cornice, fanlight, and double wood-and-glass doors. The survey notes that the post office was originally built to serve six mail routes and was serving twenty-two routes by 1980, with plans at that time to close the facility and relocate postal operations to Moon Township.
